Recently, my PC went dead. It decided to retire itself after serving me for almost 3 years! We’ve got it 2nd hand and it was already 3-4 years old when we took over.
It ran good for a long while before it started slowing down a little, and then became annoyingly slow after we upgraded to Windows 10 from 7.
I didn’t know what happened but it have been running dead slow and have frequent black screen that usually last 5-10 minutes since November last year! Starting this year, the black screen duration gets longer, with the longest lasting about 2 hours!
Days later, the hard disk was dead as there is a clear warning that pops up as the PC boots up.
I brought it down to a repair shop we frequent and the verdict is that the secondary hard disk is gone and the RAM are having problem too.
We asked if its worth to repair and the guy at the shop (let’s call him the “technician”) suggest getting a new PC as this PC is an old and almost outdated model. It would struggle with all the programs and some games I was trying to run on it.
Which is true. I’ve to upgrade a few of my frequently use programs to the latest version because the older versions are no longer compatible with Windows 10. They started getting laggy and sometimes even crashes!
Using multiple programs becomes a pain as the PC would lag a lot and eventually freeze! I’ve to hard reset the PC and lose some, if not ALL of my work progress.
Since a PC is an essential in my life, I decided to upgrade to a new PC.
After running through my requirements, the technician suggest to DIY a custom PC.
It’s an expensive 1k+ investment (equivalent to about 250 GrabFood trips!!) and the biggest investment I’ve made thus far!
This is how it looks, and the specs:
I didn't go for the flashy RGB light casing as I want to keep things within budget and spend on the more important things only!
1) CPU + MOBO - RYZEN 5 3500 + GIGABYTE GA B450M-DS3H v2
2) GPU - PALIT GTX 1660 SUPER 6GB
3) RAM - Klevv Performance 3200MHz CL22 DDR4 16GB
4) PSU - C.M MW 550W 80+ BRONZE SEMI-MOD
6) SSD - KINGSTON A400 240GB 2.5" SSD
7) HDD - TOSHIBA P300 3.5" 7200RPM
8) CASE - TECWARE NEXUS M2 T-GLASS CASE BLACK
I’m sharing this because, to me, this is a milestone of a kind. My first big investment in something I believe in.
Its just a special feeling I can never explain.
